【摘要】:Thispracticedealswithmethodstoconstruct,calibrate,andusefullscaleoxygenconsumptioncalorimeterstohelpminimizetestingresultdiscrepanciesbetweenlaboratories.ThemethodologydescribedhereinisusedinanumberofASTMtestmethods,inavarietyofunstandardizedtestmethods,andforresearchpurposes.Thispracticewillfacilitatecoordinationofgenericrequirements,whicharenotspecifictotheitemundertest.Theprincipalfire-test-responsecharacteristicsobtainedfromthetestmethodsusingthistechniquearethoseassociatedwithheatreleasefromthespecimenstested,asafunctionoftime.Otherfire-test-responsecharacteristicsalsoaredetermined.Thispracticeisintendedtoapplytotheconductionofdifferenttypesoftests,includingbothsomeinwhichtheobjectiveistoassessthecomparativefireperformanceofproductsreleasinglowamountsofheatorsmokeandsomeinwhichtheobjectiveistoassesswhetherflashoverwilloccur.Thispracticedoesnotprovidepass/failcriteriathatcanbeusedasaregulatorytool,nordoesitdescribeatestmethodforanymaterialorproduct.ForuseoftheSIsystemofunitsinrefereedecisions,seeIEEE/ASTMSI-10.Theunitsgiveninparenthesesareprovidedforinformationonly.Thisstandardisusedtomeasureanddescribetheresponseofmaterials,products,orassembliestoheatandflameundercontrolledconditions,butdoesnotbyitselfincorporateallfactorsrequiredforfirehazardorfireriskassessmentofthematerials,products,orassembliesunderactualfireconditions.Note1-ThisisthestandardcaveatdescribedinsectionF2.2.2.1oftheFormandStyleforASTMStandardsmanualforfire-test-responsestandards.Inactualfact,thispracticedoesnotprovidequantitativemeasures.Firetestingofproductsandmaterialsisinherentlyhazardous,andadequatesafeguardsforpersonnelandpropertyshallbeemployedinconductingthesetests.Firetestinginvolveshazardousmaterials,operations,andequipment.SeealsoSection7.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
